Our Mission

Our mission has not changed since Janice Waterman founded the company in 2001.

“I recognized the need for Waterman Hurst when I obtained by first corporate officer level position. Along with my entrepreneurial Silicon Valley medical technology company, I was sold to a foreign owed firm by our parent company, and I became one of two members of the executive committee that the acquirer chose to retain. Shortly after we were bought, I knew the corporate culture would change radically and my growth would be limited. As CHRO, I wanted to transition my C-level skills into a line management position and then, ultimately run my own company.

As I started to prepare for my first job search, I sought help. The leadership experts and career coaches I met came up short. The ‘job search’ experts I met with had never been in a top leadership position and had never executed a C-level search; they gave generic stock advice, generally lacked creativity and did not give the impression they cared about my results. They clearly did not understand the politics of navigating a career at the top of a company nor what it took to land C-level job offers.

When I founded Waterman Hurst, I had 18 years of leadership experience, six years navigating to an office level position and nearly thirteen years as a corporate officer. I had made three company to company moves, changing industries, achieved top 5 compensation within a public company, was ranked one of the top ten paid women in Silicon Valley, assumed the #2 operating role within a public company, and was being groomed for the CEO position. Knowing a strategic sale was in the works, I resigned to start my own family, as well as our company, Waterman Hurst.

Our promotion, job and board search services have been perfected over many years. We have served hundreds of leadership clients and enabled them to achieve their job search, board search, and overall long term career goals since 2000.
